Polyforum Siqueiros

This was the first solo exhibition in Mexico of Swiss artist Marcel Meury. The exhibition, titled “If you want to see the leg, you have to come today. The day my leg went away,” presents a selection of photographs, videos, and a site-specific installation that the artist developed during a short residence in Mexico City. Meury’s work springs from a profound reflection on the relationship between art and everyday life; from the thin line that can exist between a philosophical discourse and the uncanny. The exhibition places special emphasis on three fundamental aspects which stayed with Meury after his first visit to Mexico City: the waiting, the random occupation of public space, and the particular social dynamics of this city. The ideas of “origin” and “roots” are also present in the exhibition, themes that persist in the complex environment of Mexico City and have been a constant subject in the artist’s work. The show pays particular attention to the history and unique architecture of Polyforum Siqueiros. Marcel understands the Polyforum as a conceptual platform, without constraining it to the physical space, which allows his interventions to extend beyond the walls of the gallery.
